I wanted to do something special for Dean. Many people buy baby books and never finish filling them out. (I know I have one from my parents that is mostly blank. No hard feelings, Mom.) There are all kinds of great ideas for how to document your baby's life. I brainstormed for a while before coming up with what I wanted to do. I'm sure I'll add things and quit things as well. All parents have the best of intentions, right? =)
I have a calendar that my mom filled out for me during my first year. It is actually one of the most special things I have from my mom. The calendar documents moments of my first year, like first word, first steps, first trip, etc. At the end of most of the months, my mom wrote about what we did during that month. It was essentially a letter to me that described the things that I started doing, places we went, and how much she loved me.
Since I loved this calendar so much, I went on a hunt for
one just like it. I finally found something on Amazon that sounded like
what I wanted, but was really unsure of what it would look like in
person. Ordering anything online can be hit or miss. When the calendar
finally came in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised with how awesome
it was! We already started filling it out and have written down all of
his firsts thus far and also included notes on things we've done. As
for the letter portion of the calendar, I debated whether I should hand
write them or type them. I even thought about hand writing them and
then typing them as well. In fact, I still have not totally decided,
but I will be posting the monthly letter to Dean on the blog. I want
these letters to be cherished by him (and me) just as much as I loved
what my mom wrote about my first year.
Here is what my calendar (left) and Dean's (right) calendar look like:
I have also started writing in his baby book. Jerry picked out the baby book. He looked at a lot of options, but liked this one the best.
Here is hoping that we do not slack on these projects!! =)
