Dear Lucy - Two Years Old

Dear Lucy,

I don't know how it's possible.  I don't know how you could already be two.  I think I blinked and you grew up!  I see pictures from a year ago and cannot fathom how it has really been another year already.  Was it really just a year ago that you were so tiny?  And was it really two years ago that you were born??  The time has zoomed by -- and so have you!!

You are SO busy.  Your dad and I think that's because you are trying to keep up with Dean.  You love to do what he's doing and play with his toys.  You like to be right next to him (sometimes bugging him!!).  He usually loves it, but sometimes yells for us to help him get you away from his toys.  Lately you two have been playing so well together.  You and Dean really enjoy each other a lot.  You laugh together all of the time.  But my favorite thing you've been doing is asking for Dean to help you get your shoes and jacket on.  The other morning we were getting ready for daycare and I asked Dean to help you get ready to go.  I overheard him asking you, "Lucy, is that how you're supposed to talk to me?  Lucy.  You just told me you wanted a hat on!!"  Haha!  You were arguing with him saying you didn't want a hat, but just picked one out.  You had changed your mind and decided you wanted to wear a penguin sweatshirt instead, so I helped you put on the hat and then the penguin hood.  Dean stood back, looked at you, and said, "Lucy!  You look just like a penguin!"  You two are so cute!!

Speaking of cute, you're really getting into picking out your clothes lately.  You tell me when something is pretty and if you like it.  Sometimes you will tell me you don't want to wear any shirts in your closet.  That's not always so cute!  :)  You love wearing headbands.  You like to put them on yourself and pick out cute ones.  Your hair is still not long enough for ponytails or even any barrettes.  I think you'll have longer hair before too long though.  I've always dreamed of you having more hair, but it recently started getting long enough to be messy and it was so much easier before!!  Haha!  :)  We got you a penguin purse  (your first one!) for your birthday and you already love it.  I can't wait to see what kinds of things you get into.  I hope you like the kinds of things I did when I was growing up!  You're already in love with your babies -- you push them around with the stroller and feed them their bottles and food.  It's so sweet to watch.  You're a great mommy to your babies!

Your speech is really good for your age.  You talk all the time -- just like Dean.  There are still lots of times that we can't understand, but we can usually understand after enough repeating.  Man, you get frustrated sometimes!  You are also LOUD -- even Papa and Uncle Parker say so.  You've recently started whispering and growling/talking like a monster.  You make all kinds of crazy faces when you talk.  You are very animated -- always using your hands and body to make a point.  I love to listen to you.

In fact, we love everything about you.  Everyone adores you.  You make us all laugh.  Papa especially loves how you say his name so much and have him watch what you're doing.  Mike likes to cuddle you and read you stories.  Daddy would literally do anything you wanted because you have melted his heart.  He told me the other day that he stares at you sometimes and his eyes fill with tears.  It is so much fun to watch you learn and grow, Lucy Goose.  We are so blessed by having you as a part of our family.

I can't wait to watch you continue to develop and grow.  I hope you're always as sweet and kind as you are today.  I love you, my smart, beautiful girl.  Dream big, little one!

Love,

Mom

P.S.  I hope you want to hang out with me when you're older.  I really love spending time with my mom and often tell her I hope you love spending time with us just as much.  It would be my dream come true!
